It is the most famous cloud forest reserve in the world and one of the most important protected areas in Costa Rica. It is visited by nature lovers from various countries desiring to enjoy, appreciate and study the abundant biodiversity of its ecosystems.

The Reserve has a managing Plan, updated in 2005, which is a basic programming tool for ensuring area conservation goals continue to be met.

The Reserve is open year round every day from 7:00 am. to 4:00 pm. Guided tours are also offered on the trails from 7:00 to 9:30 pm

How do I get to Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve?

The road to Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve is unpaved (a vehicle equipped with four-wheel-drive is recommended). From San Jose take the inter-American highway North to kilometer 133, then turn right towards Sardinal until you reach Santa Elena (about 29 Kilometers). Once you reach Santa Elena continue for another 6 kilometers following the signs. This will bring you to the entrance to the reserve.
